In the School of God (5) The canteen

"The Lord is my shepherd : I will not lack anything. It makes me rest in green pastures, it leads me to peaceful waters. He restores my soul ; he leads me into paths of righteousness, because of his name." Psalm 23: 1-3

"It is written," Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. "Matthew 4: 4

In his school, the Master "feeds" his pupils and renews their strength, before they resume classes. Today, when I enter the canteen, I notice some young students. I observe their surprise by seeing the quality and richness of the menus, they must be new students! Others seem tired, but the Master, I am certain, will restore them (literally : to bring back their soul).

The menus are varied and the food appetizing, abundant, balanced. The Master knows perfectly what is appropriate for each of his students to advance, grow and be fit. Before beginning the meal with the students, a prayer rises to thank the Lord for food and ask him to bless the food.

Here, no gluttony ! In all it takes balance. A Christian may suffer from spiritual obesity through lack of exercise, if he absorbs a great deal of biblical teachings and neglects to put them into practice. Similarly, he will suffer from malnutrition if he feeds his soul from only one part of the Bible and even loses weight if he refuses all that the Master offers him. The Bible is the Word of God.

After regaining strength, the pupil can resume classes, recognizing that he has been so well fed. He has lacked nothing. Just listen to the advice of the Word and obey it to be fit. There can be no spiritual development, if this food is not taken regularly.

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." As we take food to ensure the physical life of our body, we must give spiritual nourishment to our souls. Only the Bible, which is the Word of God, fulfills this role. It is an inexhaustible source of promises, encouragement and strength, from Genesis to the Apocalypse. It responds to all situations. Let God speak to us !
