Is the fire lit ? (2)

Hebrews 12:29 - For our God is a consuming fire. (TOB).

We were talking yesterday of finding the fire of the Holy Ghost. At the very least, the Lord wants us to be hot for Him. However, fire has a negative aspect : it destroys.

Our verse tells us that our God is a consuming fire. You will find that many times a fire has come out of Him to destroy those who oppose Him. This was true in the Old Testament and is still true today. God is immutable, He does not change. But fear not, the consuming fire that emanates from God is not meant to reach us, it is sent to destroy the works of the devil. I remind him that a fire that never goes out is prepared for him and his henchmen, he needs to hear his future.

“The Son of God appeared to destroy the works of the devil” tells us 1 John 3.8. The fire that the Lord wants to put in us is a power to destroy the works of darkness, in the lives of others but also in our own. Evil, in all its forms, is called to disappear from our lives, even the dead works of the flesh. If they are not destroyed here below, they will be destroyed there (1 Corinthians 3:13).

Fire, in its negative aspect, is not to be feared. If only we could put our lives on the altar. The "mystery" of the altar sacrifice will never be taught by prosperity gospel preachers, because it is defined by the word "death" and they cannot conceive it. The consuming fire of the altar is there to consume us and bring us to death to ourselves. But this "death" will be our resurrection. The grain that we are will multiply by 30, 60 or 100. This lost life will be found, and it will be immortal. This is what Jesus taught (John 12:25).

My beloved, let us take the example of what is happening on this earth. Every physical principle emanates from a spiritual principle. To stop a devastating fire, firefighters use controlled fire to burn vegetation so that the fire is no longer fuel. If the Lord finds anything in our life to burn, it will be by controlled fire and this "destruction" will forever remove the devil's hold on us. We will be able to say with our Master : "The devil has nothing in me" (John 14:30).
