Is the fire lit ? (4)
Ephesians 1.19 - What immense power he has displayed on behalf of us believers ; his energy, his almighty force (TOB).
Another, more positive characteristic of fire is that it provides energy. If you have a vehicle, it works and moves forward because of the energy of the fire, at least if it has a combustion engine. Of explosion, it is mentioned in verse 8 of Acts 1 : "But you are going to receive a power, that of the Holy Spirit who will come upon you ; you will then be my witnesses ”. The word power is "dunamis" in Greek, this word is at the root of the word "dynamite".
The fire that the Holy Spirit brings is a power (ability, strength, power) that will keep you going. When the children of God lose this fire, they begin to stagnate and then regress. The Christian life is a march forward, even a race (Philippians 3:14). We are called to go from progress to progress, to be transformed from glory to glory so as to be ever more like our Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18).
It's a good thing to take stock every now and then to see where we are. Compared to last year, have I improved ? Have I acquired more knowledge, more maturity ? Has the fruit of the Spirit grown in me and my character softened ? Am I closer to the goal ? What were my victories, my gestures of love, my spiritual breakthroughs ?
You see, this is not about meetings of veterans : "I have been a Christian for twenty years, me thirty, me...". What changed ? If the toll is negative, the likely cause is that we have lost our fire. We have fallen into a religious routine, that's good, but it sorely lacks life, explosiveness, enthusiasm, that irresistible strength to go higher, to go further. Unfortunately, there are too many disillusioned children of God on the side of the road.
Beloved, let us return to this recommendation of Paul : "Rekindle the gift which you have received" (2 Timothy 1:6). Let's start praying in more tongues. Let us rediscover real intimacy with the Lord. Let’s not accept that we will live another day without this fire burning in our hearts. Let’s shake off all the dust of tradition. Lord give us a fiery heart for you, full of the energy of your life.
Good reflection.
