"Let us hold firm the profession of our hope, for whoever made the promise is faithful." Hebrews 10.23
"Holding fast" means hugging something so that it does not get away from you. It means grabbing it, clinging to it. The word "profession" in this verse means agreement, attestation, confession or profession. This is the same word that is translated by confessing in 1 John 1.9.
The apostle John wrote, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
If we see our sin as God sees it, then we will receive forgiveness and complete cleansing of all sin.
The word confess in 1 John 1.9 does not mean that you go to a polling booth to tell the priest about all the sins you have committed. It means that if we agree with God about our sin and see our sin as God sees it, then we will receive forgiveness and complete cleansing of all sin.
We must agree with God not only on sin, but also on his promises. Even when we sin, if we stick to the word of God, if we agree with him and confess our sin, he is always faithful to cleanse us, to forgive us and to fulfill his word!
A prayer for today
Lord, you are faithful! I will firmly hold my profession of faith. I thank you for always purifying me, forgiving me and fulfilling your word!
