"Me, I am the resurrection"

"Jesus said to Martha : I am the resurrection and the life : he who believes in me, even if he dies, will live ; And whoever lives and believes in me will not die forever. Do you believe that ?" John 11:25, 26

In the universe everything tends towards death: the stars die, the mountains erode, the most resistant trees end up falling, not to speak of men and animals ... Only God is immutable: he is "the same" according to The name he gives himself (Deut 32. 39).

Man is made in the image of God, according to his likeness. He received a vital breath from him; He could thus have made an exception to this law of the Creator and enjoy a life without end. But because of their sin, Adam and Eve, driven from the garden and deprived of the tree of life, die and pass death on to their offspring. However, if the body of men, which is dust, "returns to the earth ... the spirit returns to the God who gave it" (Ecc 12: 7). The soul, the immaterial part of their being, remains immortal. Thus the death of Adam and Eve is not only the death of the body, it is also symbolically for the whole human race the interruption of the happy relationship which God had instituted with them.

But Jesus intervened. He brings forth those who believe in him from death to enter into the realm of eternal life. From then on, the believers possess it and it allows them to find a trusting relationship with God. It is a different relationship from innocent Adam, for they know God as their Father.

Why is it so ? Because Jesus, by his death, perfectly accomplished the will of his Father; Because he has conquered the devil who had the power of death (Heb. 2: 14,15). God will put "all the enemies under his feet : the last enemy to be abolished is death" (1 Cor 15:26). It is he, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior of our soul and of our body, "who will transform our body of abasement into the conformity of the body of His glory" (Phil 3:21).

Let us not forget that the unbelievers will also rise again, but to meet as an inexorable judge that they will not receive as their savior during their life here below.
