Not just a week !

John 17.21 - That they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me, and as I am in you, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.

Each year, in January, there is "the week of unity" : a week of the year when Christians of different faiths will meet for times of sharing and prayer, the key verse being the one we come from. to say: may all be one.

If all times of meeting and fraternal sharing are welcome, does unity exist for all that ? Isn't it a bit hypocritical to believe in unity for only one week in the year ? If even during these times, the Lord can allow a meeting, a sharing that will change the course of our life and our vision, I believe that it is every day of the year that we must work for the unity of the body of Christ.

We have built walls of division, of separation between us when they are bridges that we should have built. Bridges to meet one another, bridges to be able to exchange and share what God has placed at the heart of our hearts, bridges also allowing the world to recognize the Church at the very heart of the city. By building these walls, we have also erected strongholds in our thoughts. Certain movements going so far as to advocate that apart from this movement, no salvation ! Sad isn't it ?

We need our mentalities to change. There is no question here of making ecumenism which is a mixture of everything and anything but of living a real unity of the people of God in their city so that the world can see and believe! We have great difficulty receiving from others, accepting that others have received something from the Lord. Yet, isn't the body made of several limbs that need each other ? 1 Corinthians 12:21 tells us : "The eye cannot say to the hand, I do not need you ; nor head to toe say : I don't need you".

When are we going to find ourselves under the banner of Christ, the only true banner and the One who can create this true unity ? When are we really going to experience this unity in our cities ? In the Word, there is no mention of the Church of Tartempion or Tartuffe. No ! mention is made of the Church of the city, that of Laodicea, that of Philippi, etc. What makes unity is not having the same ideas, the same way of thinking, the same way of praising... It is Christ and only Christ ! Unity is not uniformity. If my hand looked like my nose, I would be in serious trouble.

What if today we would say this prayer : "Lord, show me who my brother, my sister is, remove my fears, my prejudices and make my life a gateway to bring peace and love every day. what you do !".
