On its own

For my part, brothers and sisters, I have not been able to speak to you as people led by the Spirit, but as people led by their own nature, as little children in Christ. 1 Corinthians 3.1

Who has never dreamed of being able to do whatever they want ? I remember the day I left my parents to become a sailor. In my imagination, I thought I was finally going to be able to live the way I wanted. I was finally going to be able to indulge in the passions that inhabited me and that my parents forbade me.

A few years later, the excess alcohol to which I indulged cost me to put my bag on the ground. Goodbye oceans, boats, lagoons bordered by coconut palms ! The Navy no longer wanted me because of my way of life !

In the Bible, being on one's own is the most severe punishment God inflicts on a man (Romans 1.24-28). Wanting to do your own will and indulge in your own passions, whatever they may be, is to shut yourself up in a sterile vessel. It is to condemn oneself to ignorance of the knowledge of God and to immaturity in the faith.

Let us come out of the dungeon of our ego and ask God to lead us by his Spirit.

Alain Monclair
