One step after another

"I am the LORD your God, who teaches you for your benefit, who directs you in the way by which you must walk." Isaiah 48. 17

"The Lord, the Lord, is my strength ; he will make my feet like those of deer, and he will make me walk on my high places." Habakuk 3. 19

When the young child begins to take his first steps, he is not aware of the precariousness of his balance ; he often wants to run right away, then he stumbles and falls. When the young convert begins his new march, convinced of the fullness of his strength, he often desires to attack a "Paul's" race immediately. Then, sometimes, he must stop, aware of his weakness ... and seek his strength in God. For himself, but not only, Isaiah drew the words above, showing on whom he should look and lean. Habakuk confirms that all forces and directions come from God (second verse of the day).

We would all like to burn the stages, go much faster than we can, but God wants to lead us one step after another; let us ask him the wisdom of Job, who said : "My foot is attached to his footsteps ; I have kept his way, and I have not deviated from it" (Job 23. 11). One step after another in a path of fidelity is all that God expects from each of his. In reality, it's the only way to move forward in this world! We want to run so much when we only know how to walk! We want to run so much, while we often do not look where we put our feet and stumbling on a path that would be easy if we let ourselves be guided by God, one step after another. God then helps us to get up and resume our walk where he wants to lead us, holding us by the hand as if we were a little child !

We are so presumptuous ! But let us not count on our strength and look to God for a walk, sometimes a little slow, but one that honors and glorifies it one step at a time. Let us never forget that "we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5: 7). Let us exhort one another to walk in a manner worthy of our Savior and Lord, for we walk "in the newness of life" (Rom 6: 4).
