"Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep ... they were afraid." Luke 9. 32, 34

A tired and fearful witness

Jesus said to the disciples (v. 27) that some of them (Peter, John and Jacques) will not die before they see the kingdom of God. It's announce eight days in advance, they will be witnesses of his transfiguration.

But this scene is to take place on a mountain, away from the world that rejects Jesus (v. 22) but allowed to act Satan (v. 39).

So they have to climb to the top.

There, Peter and his companions, tired, fell asleep while Jesus prayed.

Then operates his glorious transfigured-tion; and Moses and Elijah appear.

This scene is a figure of God's kingdom in glory; Moses and Elijah are the believers who are already in the presence of the Lord at the time of establishment of the kingdom, while Peter and his companions are believers then living on earth.

The disciples wake up and witness the scene.

But Peter does not grasp the significance of this extraordinary moment.

However, it is aware of an exceptional experience that it would be desirable to extend. I

the proposed building three tents, one for the Lord and the other two for Moses and Elijah.

No response, or as denial, or in the form of reproach is given to Peter; but immediately the cloud, visible sign of the glory of God, covers the scene.

Pierre is seized with fear and God's voice rang out proclaiming that Jesus is his beloved Son, and should be listened to. His next sacrifice deliver the believer from sin and eternal death.

The glory of this scene, it announces the presence and voice of God leave no doubt: the proposal of Peter for three tents was totally moved (v. 33) But it comes from a disciple who loves Jesus! Also no reproach is addressed to Peter, nor the time or later; but the Lord's grace produced its fruit: no talk of transfiguration in terms as ardent as those of Peter (2 Peter 1. 16-18.).

Only the grace obtained such results!
