Panser slightly the wound

"They dressed the plague of the daughter of my people lightly, saying : Peace, peace, and there was no peace." Jeremiah 6:14

A man injures his arm with a sharp tool. His relatives do not realize the gravity of the wound and apply a dressing and a good bandage. At the end of four days, the ambulance is finally called ... Too late, the man has just died, having lost too much blood. The wound had been slightly dressed !

So it was in the days of Jeremiah the prophet. The people of Israel as a whole had abandoned God to give themselves up to idolatry (Jer 1:10, 2:13, 17:19, 5: 7)

The prophets and priests, those men whose functions were so important to the people, had themselves turned away from God (5:30, 31, 6, 13). As leaders, they should have been examples of piety, and denounced and judged the sins of the people. Being involved themselves in these sins, they sought only easy peace, the one who prefers not to approach the serious problems. These officials did not want to judge the root of things or, according to the image, consider the gravity of the wound to bring the adapted dressing, "they dressed it lightly."

Was it not the same when the brothers of Joseph said to their father, "A bad beast has devoured him ; Joseph was certainly devoured "(Gen. 37:33). The wound of the lie has been dramatically covered and for so long the ten brothers will not be afflicted with "the breach of Joseph" (Amos 6: 6). But God was going to discover Him, "the plague".

In the TA, the law concerning leprosy (Leviticus 13 and 14) insists on all the priest's care to identify the evil in all cases envisaged and to bring a divine solution ... No, the priest should not dress the wound lightly . Paul did not act otherwise with the church of Corinth. As a true priest, he denounced their sins (twelve) and brought the divine solution.

The supreme example is in God. How could he lightly heal the sin of man ? He puts the "wound" in evidence (Romans 1 and 2) and visits the sins of believers on Jesus at the hour of the cross. All this leads us to serious reflections (Provision 1. 4, 2. 11, 3. 22).
