"The fervent prayer of a righteous man possesses a singular power." James 5.16
Smith Wigglesworth was a great preacher. But before being a preacher, he practiced the profession of plumber and was not a Christian ... nor very pleasant. Luckily for him, he was married to a pious woman.
When we pray, we invite God to enter into our problems and situations, and to act.
He did not want her to go to church, but she would go anyway. Once she had left, he locked the door and, once back, she had to sleep on the porch at the back of the house. When he opened the next day, she came in, greeting him with a "Hello Smitty !" And prepared her breakfast.
She was an example of piety for him. She prayed for him and God gave her the grace to be kind to her husband despite the rude behavior of the latter. Thanks to this goodness, Wigglesworth eventually came to the Lord and was radically transformed. He became one of the greatest preachers who ever lived. This is the power of prayer !
When we pray, we invite God to enter into our problems and situations, and to act. Prayer makes us partners of God. If we are unable to transform men and bring them to love God, he can work in their hearts.
Praying is nothing but speaking with God. It is asking him to provide for our needs or those of someone else. It is to praise and thank him, to entrust to him what we care about. We must bring it all in prayer.
The Bible teaches us in James 5:16 that "the fervent prayer of a righteous man possesses a singular power." Prayer is animated with passion. She asks for a sincere heart and translates a commitment of the whole person.
A prayer for today
Lord, thank you for this encouragement. Help me to keep this attitude of faith and perseverance in order to see lives changing around me. Amen
