"A Canaanite woman ... came to pay him homage, saying, Lord, come to my rescue ! He replied : It is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs. She said, Yes, Lord ; yet the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. Then Jesus answered her, Woman, great is your faith "Matthew 15. 25-27.

 
Shortly before the meeting, Jesus had put the cities of Tyre and Sidon on the same plane as Sodom, the city destroyed because of the profligacy of its inhabitants (Matt. 11. 21-24). Yet it is in the vicinity of these cities that Jesus momentarily removed when it leaves the Galilee, the province where he grew up but yet the hosts so bad now. Why ? Probably to deliver a demon daughter of a Canaanite woman who lived there and to show that God's salvation is now extend to all men, well beyond Israel.
This woman is terribly experienced in his mother's heart ; she learned and she knows better than the Galileans songs humble man who visits his country : "Lord, Son of David" (v. 22). To emphasize his faith, the Lord does not meet its urgent request ; he speaks to him with apparent hardness by comparing it to the Gentiles that the Jews saw as "dogs". But this woman has faith in Jesus ; it is satisfied that this man is kind and he will deliver his daughter ; she will stop at no rebuff to win the case for his daughter "cruelly tormented by a demon."
The disciples, by cons, do not show only one concern: to be rid of this gêneuse that breaks their ears. How can they be so far from the compassion of their Master ? But they have attended the meeting of Jesus with the Roman centurion and should know that love is carried to all (Matt. 8. 5-13).
Each man has an immortal soul precious to God. Would we tend to make differences between men or women who live near us? Us backwards when it comes to proclaiming the Gospel to a person who is not of our social or cultural background ? "... The gospel is God's power to save everyone who believes" (Rom. 1 16).
