"Make a joyful noise unto God, all the earth ! Sing the glory of his name, make his praise glorious ... Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he has done for my soul. "Psalm 66. 1, 2, 16
Faced with the works of God, the psalmist rejoices ! He praises God for the salvation he has given to his people in the past. He sees before him as if he had lived them himself and he invites believers to join his admiration : "Come and see the works of God" (v. 5). This text also announces the day when the whole earth will worship the Lord and will sing a song to celebrate his glory (v. 4).
Many rescues have marked the history of the son of Israel. In particular, God freed them from slavery in Egypt and introduced them, forty years later, in the land of Canaan. These great works of God are saved to instruct and encourage us today. Their lessons are permanent, and believers of all times may consider them as images of what has been done to them.
Leave the shadows and images, and, in turn, let us remember the salvation that God has done for his children during more than twenty centuries of Christianity. Our mere presence today as believers proves sovereignty, loyalty and the power of God. Despite the persecution to destroy and annihilate the heresies for the interior, the church built by the Lord and made up of true believers still on earth. Even today, God draws people to him from among men.
But evidence of God's works in general is not enough. Full testimony used personal experiences : "Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he has done for my soul" (v. 16). This "lived" humbly told lead easier conviction and assurance of faith (Act. 26. 28). The Christian lives for personal salvation. He can talk about his Lord knowingly.
Of course, when God hears my prayers and deliver me, it's not because of my personal merits, but according to his mercy, his grace, his mercy ; the author of the psalm of the day was very conscious (v. 20). All the more reason to push for joy !
