"The life of my lord is bound in the beam of the livings to the Lord your God." 1 Samuel 25. 29

Abigail meets David to prevent him from exercising a murderous vengeance, following the affront he received from his husband Nabal ; It uses a singular expression, but rich in meaning in the light of the N.T. : "the beam of the livings", in the direction of assembly of elements linked together.
This wise woman recognizes in David the king whom God has chosen to rule the people. She knows that David will survive and conquer, for she sees him among the living. Besides the words of circumstance pronounced respectfully by bringing gifts to the future king, Abigail expresses a true prophecy which, from David, leads to Christ.
In this image, the believer sees all the redeemed well united to Christ and united together. What characterizes them is the life received from God himself, a life beyond physical existence. God sees them united among themselves, in spite of appearances. They are his children, they belong to his family : "To all who received it, [Jesus] gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, who are born, not Not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God "(John 1:12, 13).
The bond that binds the whole is the Holy Spirit : "He who binds us firmly with you to Christ and who anointed us is God, who also has marked us with his seal, and has given us the The downfall of the Spirit in our hearts "(2 Cor 1: 21, 22, see also 1 Cor 12: 13).
To be bound in the "beam of the livings" is the part of all believers. They form a whole. God sees us thus. All that is asked of us is to maintain unity by the bond of peace (Ephesians 4: 3) so that the world may believe that it is the Father who sent the Son (John 17: 20- 23).

Note : Abigail's faith marks the Jewish funeral. It is customary to place a very sober stone on the tomb (the matsèva), with only the inscriptions, the identity of the deceased, the date of death and sometimes a short epitaph like the inscription in Hebrew : " Be inserted into the beam of the livings ".
