Seek, seek again ! (2)
Hosea 4.6 - My people are destroyed because they lack knowledge.
For a long time in the history of the Church, access to the Word of God has been closed by religious authorities. Then, little by little, it became accessible to everyone. Today most of us have excellent tools for personal study and meditation, which is a real enrichment.
However, my thinking goes in the direction of a caveat. This wealth of "possibilities" can lead us into error, that is, to make "his" doctrine. The Ethiopian minister's question remains unanswered : "How can I understand if no one is guiding me ?” (Acts 8:31). I see only one remedy for this danger : sharing.
You will agree with me that the apostle Paul had unraveled many "mysteries" of the Word. In Judaism he had been educated by one of the greatest rabbis of his time. He had received excellent revelations, including the gospel he preached. Yet he did not hesitate to "confront" his understanding of the Word with the prominent apostles of the day (see Galatians 2.2). The why, he expresses it well by saying : "So as not to run in vain", that is to say to deceive me.
My beloved, what we believe in the Word of God, what creates in us deep convictions, needs to be "confronted" with the perception of others, in an atmosphere of listening and in the desire for better still pierce the knowledge of God. Let us have no fear in this area, if our understanding is right, it will pass the "test" with flying colors. If any doubt sets in, it will prompt us even further to study. Perhaps one of these beliefs will also be shattered in the face of the evidence of the truth and I can testify that this is very beneficial.
My beloved, no one is complete in himself, we need others. This knowledge that God wants to establish in our hearts needs to be refined, to be perfect. In fact, if "our" doctrine has not evolved for ten or twenty years, it means that the Holy Spirit has not taught us anything since that period. Let us advance more and more in the knowledge of our God and of his Word and take full advantage of the “light” brought to us by other members of the body of Christ ! And it’s another challenge to stay united despite differences !
Good reflection.
