Take a step foward...

"Thus saith the LORD of hosts : If you walk in my ways, and acquit the charge I entrust to you, then you shall judge my house also, and you shall also keep my courts, will give to walk in the midst of them that stand before me." Zechariah 3: 7

The Lord said these words to Joshua the high priest. It is in 500 BC. About AD. The people of Israel were taken captive to Babylon and remained there for seventy years. A part of the people returned to Jerusalem, following the proposal of Cyrus, king of the Medes, to rebuild the city and the temple. For this remnant of Israel, it is a renewal : the nation must be rebuilt politically and spiritually.

This word of the Lord touches me !

In my life, I also notice the decline and the fall of what could have remained standing. I think of friendships broken by jealousy, families torn by marital problems, churches weakened by lack of vision and care, quarrels and seizures of power. So this word is also addressed to me.

There is therefore always a renewal in the eyes of God ; but how should I consider it ? "If you walk in my ways," says the Lord. I will therefore try to get to know them.

God then asks me to "make the acquit", that is, to carry the burden, to fulfill the responsibilities he entrusts to me. Am I willing and happy to answer him "yes" ? I then accept the circumstances God has around me and I do not complain about the first annoyance. I am then ready to respond to solicitations, ready to help my brother or sister, to the extent of my means (Gal 6:10).

Then, if I am faithful in small things, God entrusts me with greater things : "to judge his house", "to keep his courts". If I am available, I will not be surprised to see my opportunities come to my door to do good, to take care of the interests of the Lord.

Notice finally the promise of God ; it is as if he were saying to me : "If you take a step forward ... then I will give you to walk". In a way, God asks me to do what He will give me to accomplish !
