Take the place of God !

Mark 8:36 - And what good is it for a man to win everyone over, if he loses his soul ?

Some time ago, after a history assignment on totalitarian regimes that my baby had to learn, we reflected, my husband and I, on how men (and women) were able to go into such dramatic drifts and thus put populations under terrible enslavement.

Human beings, being what they are, can sometimes "have a big head". A little power, recognition by the other, money, well in short, all this leaving only one thing to shine : the desire to become a god ! Doesn't that remind you of something or at least someone ?

The question we ask ourselves is, as Christians, could it be that “sometimes” we are tempted to take ourselves for God or to want to be a god ? The answer is unfortunately yes. Perhaps to your astonishment, we Christians do this all too regularly. Whenever we try to get God into our plans instead of into God's plans. Whenever our motivation is not good, that of being put forward for example, or to take control. Whenever money is our leitmotif. Whenever we have a relationship, even "brotherly" for the purpose of an interest. All the times we don't forgive. Whenever we take action to be seen by men. Whenever we pretend to serve God but in fact it is our "I" that we are serving... We may not lead an entire population in our wake and we may not commit crimes. atrocities worse than the next, but the fact remains that we sometimes take a place that is not ours.

Very often, our real motivations in what we do and why we do it need to be placed under the gaze of God and readjusted by Him. Let us let God be God and let us accept to keep our undeserved but so wonderful place as children of God : that of letting ourselves be led by him.
