Terrible heart disease

God's observation of man is overwhelming. The whole head is sick, and the whole heart is sick. This disease is sin that perverts our heart, that is, our conscience.

In the Bible, three words are used to refer to human faults : transgression, iniquity and sin. David, in his prayer of repentance (Psalm 51), uses these three words to confess his adultery with Bathsheba. Several of his psalms show how crushed he was by the weight of his sin.

These Hebrew words have a very specific meaning.

Transgression indicates premeditation. David, who knew the Law of God, was aware of what he was doing by abusing the wife of Uriah. He was fully responsible for his act.

Iniquity involves the idea of perversion; for the moral law given by God to men has been violated. Evil finds its source in the heart of man, causing him to act foolishly.

Sin means missing the mark. We refuse to live as God wants. You will be holy, for I am holy, says the Lord (Leviticus 11:44).

How to escape this terrible disease which destroys our soul ? David humbled himself before God. His repentance was sincere and he was forgiven. If we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we too can be forgiven and find the healing our hearts need.
