The 4 jewels of divine forgiveness

"But you are a forgiving God, merciful and merciful, slow to anger, and great in goodness." Nehemiah 9. 17

"There is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared." Psalm 130. 4

Four splendid jewels adorn the crown of divine forgiveness :

- The first is the extent of forgiveness. When God forgives, he forgives everything : "The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin" (1 John 1. 7) ; "Whoever believes in him is forgiven of sins" (Acts 10:41). So we have a lot of forgiveness.

- The second jewel is free forgiveness for those who receive it. Thank God because his forgiveness costs us nothing : "Ho ! whoever is thirsty, come to the waters, and you who have no money, come, buy and eat ; yes, come, buy without money and without price wine and milk" (Es 55. 1). It is neither the qualities nor the defects of the man that make God forgive or forgive. It is only out of love for the sinner that he forgives him. A donation is free, otherwise it is trade. God's forgiveness is a free gift from him.

- The third jewel is that forgiveness is eternal. God does not erase the sins of the believer today to write them again tomorrow : "I will never remember their sins or their iniquities again" (Heb 10:17 quoted from Jeremiah 31:34).

- We still have a jewel of divine forgiveness to consider : forgiveness has an immediate effect. "I said, I will confess my transgressions to the LORD ; and you have forgiven the iniquity of my sin" (Ps 32: 5). Confession to God of a sin immediately relieves the sinner's conscience by the assurance of God's forgiveness based on the results of the work of the Lord Jesus on the cross. It makes it possible to find the way to the restoration of communion with God.

Receiving such forgiveness, let us remember the price paid by Jesus Christ. Forgiveness, far from inciting us to trivialize sin, leads to the fear of God. Every day we can praise our Redeemer for this total and permanent forgiveness. No one fears, loves, and approaches God with as much joy and humility as one who has experienced forgiveness.
