The blue dot

"When the camp is gone, Aaron and his sons will come in, and they will take down the veil that is the curtain, and cover it with the ark of the testimony ; and they shall put on it a covering of skins of sheep, and shall spread over a cloth all blue ; and they will put the bars there." Numbers 4, 5, 6

For the transportation of the tabernacle and all the objects that were worshiped through the wilderness to Canaan, God had given very specific instructions to his people, and especially to the priests and three families of the Levites : Gershom, Kehath, and Merari.

When the camp had to leave, they dismounted all the constituent elements of the tabernacle and wrapped the candlestick, the golden altar, the table, and the table with several blankets ... For each, except for the arch, the last blanket, the only visible one, was made of gray or brown hides, (identified today as "dugong" or "marine cow") and therefore very watertight. For the arch, the final cover was a blue cloth. If one had been able to look from a certain height at the caravan carrying the tabernacle and its objects, everything would have seemed confused with the sand and the rocks of the desert. But a blue dot would have caught the eye : the cover of the arch.

This blue point on the desert evokes the incomparable person of Jesus when he was on the earth. In the midst of a scene where sin reigns, in the midst of sinners, there was this blue dot : Jesus, the man from heaven. He had the Law of God deep within himself (Ps 40. 8) ; he loved righteousness and hated wickedness (Ps. 45, 7); he was the bread of life descended from heaven to give life to the world (John 6. 33), he, "debonair and humble of heart" (Matt.11, 29), but "above all" (John 3 31).

The blue-covered arch could not be confused with what surrounded it. Likewise, Jesus, a man among men, could not be mistaken for them. The sky opened on him and God, contemplating his Son, proclaimed twice : "This is my beloved Son in whom I have found my pleasure" (Matt 3: 17-17). ).

Incomparable Son of God, wonderful blue dot on the earth darkened by sin ! His holiness made him a stranger in a defiled world ; his love and grace made him active in a suffering and miserable world.
