The cave salamander
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is in good condition, your whole body is illuminated ; but when your eye is in bad shape your body is also in darkness. Luke 11:34
You are not likely to encounter the cave proteus or salamander! This amphibian indeed lives at the bottom of dark and humid chasms dug in the karstic relief of the Dalmatian coast in Croatia. Over time he adapted to his environment, losing the use of his eyes, taking on an almost transparent white skin, developing external gills... Far from the light of day he became blind and his skin was depigmented. What we don't use, we lose...
Is this not a picture of the situation of many human beings ? Far from the light of God, our spiritual sensitivity regresses, our conscience hardens, the colors of life tarnish... But when your eye is in bad condition your body is also in darkness, continues Jesus. So make sure that your light which is in you is not in darkness (Luke 11.34-35) Far from the presence of God, we become blind to certain realities, we lose sight of the essential, our environment darkens and restricts itself.
If you want to bring color to your life, discover the riches and the beauties of the world around you, then let the light enter your heart ! Welcome God, who created you and who loves you, and your outlook on you and on others will be transformed.
