The creation await and sighs

"Creation awaits, with a lively expectation, the revelation of the sons of God ... For we know that all creation together sighs ; She is in labor until now." Romans 8:19, 22

The reader readily understands that in this corrupt world the child of God sighs and awaits the deliverance of his body (Romans 8:23). But in this chapter of the Epistle to the Romans he is surprised to read these expressions : "Creation awaits" (Romans 8:19), "Creation sighs" (Rom 8: 22).

Creation (heaven and earth, the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms) is compared to a woman who goes through the pains of childbirth, but her moans suggest a new life. Creation knows that it will be delivered one day from the corruption that enslaves it.

Creation sighs and is in work until now. Why ? Because she "was subjected to vanity (not of her own free will, but because of the one who subjected her)" (Rom 8:20). The intervention of Satan and the disobedience of man affected creation. Can we not hear this universal sigh in diseases which strike animals and plants ? Mankind is also responsible for the degradation of nature: deforestation leading to erosion, advancing deserts, changing climates that favor floods and hurricanes, pollution of the soil, the atmosphere, the oceans, radioactive leaks , Degradation of cohabitation and balance of species ... Yes, creation suffers, it is like a slave abused by fallen man, but it will soon be delivered.

Creation awaits ; It is even "a lively wait". What is she waiting for ? "The revelation of the sons of God" ! But who are these sons of God ? All who have "faith in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:26). They are also "children of God" (Romans 8:16), "heirs of God, co-heirs of Christ" (v. 17); But they are not yet "revealed," that is, publicly and gloriously known, as associated with Jesus Christ. Obviously, they too await the moment of its public appearance to establish its reign. It is at this moment that creation "shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption, to enjoy the freedom of the glory of the children of God" (Romans 8:21). The desert and the arid land shall rejoice (Isa. 35: 1), and the mountains and hills will be exultant (Isa. 55:12).

In harmony with creation, we await the moment of the "renewal of all things" announced by Jesus (Matthew 19:28).
