The need for a chef

"Establish upon us a king to judge us, as all nations." 1 Samuel 8. 5

The people of Israel had leaders appointed by God to lead them. Moses had made him cross the desert ; Joshua had led him in the conquest of the promised land ; then judges were appointed by God to direct him. In fact, it was God who was the true ruler, exerting his authority through intermediaries. Some of these intermediaries did not live up to their responsibility, like the sons of Samuel ; it was, moreover, the nomination of these by their father who led the people to ask for a king. The people of Israel were at that time the only nation to have no king ; he preferred to be governed like all the others rather than depend on God alone, which was then his peculiarity.

Men have always wanted to have a leader above them, a leader who overcomes obstacles, finds a solution for difficulties, raises enthusiasm and leads to a better world. This desire is heard more and more often in conversations, in the media, in simple people as in senior officials. One wonders if there are leaders who can understand and face challenges, build the future rather than endure it.

He will come this chef ! Skillful man, fascinating, gifted ... He will have no trouble imposing himself, he will be followed blindly as a liberator ! Little by little he will appear in another day, ambitious, unscrupulous, implacable, and he will be a tyrant, demanding that all pay homage to the statue he has erected. He will put his mark on all his subjects and deprive of all resources those who refuse. In his hatred against God, he will surpass all those who have preceded him, he will present himself as God and will be worshiped.

It is not a fable but a near reality, which God reveals in his Word. This incarnation of evil is called the Antichrist ! When his pride has reached the limit of divine patience, he will be thrown alive in "the lake of fire burning with sulfur" (Rev. 19: 20) !

The true leader of men has already come, their Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, but men have said : "We do not want him to reign over us" (Luke 19:14). Today he opens his arms again to welcome repentant sinners.
