The promises of God
Searching the Scriptures
He (God) sent a man before them : Joseph, who was sold as a slave. Their feet were tied with chains, their necks were tightened with iron, until the moment when what he had announced happened and when the word of the Lord justified it. Psalm 105.17-19
Joseph's life began with a great promise. Long before, in his youth, God had given him a dream showing him that he was going to be raised to a position of high authority. He would rule over his brothers. Even his father and mother would bow down to him.
What happened next ? Exactly the opposite of what God had promised. His brothers betrayed him, sold him as a slave in Egypt, and, because of his loyalty to his Egyptian master, Joseph even ended up in prison. He was in bonds, his soul was in shackles.
How did Joseph react to this situation ? Did he say to himself : "Everything has gone wrong, the promise of the Lord will never come true" ? No, I do not think so. It is said : "Until the moment when what he said came to pass, and the word of the Lord justified him."
It is so important to understand that when the Lord makes a promise to us, often what happens next seems to be totally the opposite of what He has promised, and it is fundamental that during this time we do not let us not give up our faith in that promise, let us not say : "God has forgotten, God has broken his promise."
See, the promise that God gave us is testing us. It tests our faith, our steadfastness, to see if we stand up during the darkest hours. And if we pass the test, then, as with Joseph, the promise will be fulfilled.
Listen to the voice of God
Let’s take the time to listen to what God means. Are you waiting for a promise that God made to you will be fulfilled ? Let Him renew that promise in your heart.
Praying is easy. Talk to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : "Lord, help me to recognize among the trials that stand in my way, those that You allow me to go through for your Word to test me. Thank you for helping me to exercise discernment."
Praise God
To praise God is to show him our gratitude. What are your subjects of recognition today ? Take a time to thank the Lord.
Act today
Now dig deeper into what you have received. What can you do to apply what God has told you ? Write down the concrete actions you can take.
Honor the Lord
Our route for the day comes to an end. Let us pray together to honor our God.
"Lord, I thank you for you will never forsake me. I choose to fix my eyes on you and not on my difficulties. Yours be the kingdom, the power and the glory, amen !"
