"My children, for whom I experience the pains of childbirth again, until Christ is formed in you." Galatians 4.19

In the city of Florence in Italy, several sculptors carved a huge block of marble from the quarries of Carrara without achieving a satisfactory result.
Jesus can take the lives that sin has sacked and transform them into His image.

Struck with scissors and hammers, this block of marble had no form. After the failure and abandonment of many sculptors, Michelangelo was called in. He built a cabin around the block of marble, and worked for eighteen months in the shelter of the curious.

The block of marble had many defects : it was not compact enough, it had many veins, and above all it was very narrow and had a breach. But Michelangelo used this space to represent the void between his right arm and the torso of his character, and finally he drew from this block something admirable.

Finally, he invited his fellow-citizens to come and see his work. The statue of the young David, the shepherd-king of Israel, emerged from the unformed mass, mistreated by the other sculptors, a sling (leather strap used as a lance-stone) in his hand just before his fight against Goliath. It is now one of the glories of Florence.

On the spiritual level, Jesus can take the lives that sin has sacked and transform them into his image. Would you let him do his work in you ?

A prayer for today

Lord, I need you, transform me into your image, make me your representative on this earth. Amen !

Jean Louis Gaillard
