"Keep calm and carry on", this world-famous slogan, was a poster produced by the British government in 1939, at the beginning of the Second World War. It was intended to be displayed to raise the morale of the people in case of invasion. Two and a half million copies had been printed, but they had only been distributed in limited numbers. It was in the early 2000s that the poster was rediscovered. Since the expression has been reused thousands of times and declined in all forms (T-shirts, mugs, posters, postcards ...).
"Stay calm and hold fast" - the Christian considers things quite differently, for he knows that God is sovereign and that he holds in his hand his fragile life. True, the threats are as real today as when the bombs were falling on London. Jesus Himself taught us that one who can kill the body can do no more ... but He immediately adds : "Do not you sell five sparrows for two sous? And not one is forgotten before God. But the very hair of your head is all counted. Do not be afraid, you are worth more than many passerines "(Luke 12: 6, 7). What tenderness, what security! We are in the hand of the Creator God (1 Pet. 4:19) ; Even more so, in the hand of our God and Father (John 10:29).
"Stay calm and hold fast", for the Christian "Trust in me, persevere", is worth for the service that God has entrusted to each one. Every service involves suffering. It may be criticized, even rejected. We will be sick and discouraged. But God said to us, "Trust in me, persevere, I am with you, you are my servant, my servant, I have chosen you, I have not rejected you" (according to Isaiah 41 9).
Our service can also have very little fruit, or even result in an apparent failure. God tells us today : "Trust in me, persevere, this work is mine."
