Victim of ignorance
They have a clouded mind, they are strangers to the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts. Ephesians 4:18
In 1779, the Tahiti archipelago was infamous among navigators for the corruption of its customs and the cruelty of the islanders ! In particular, we told with terror the massacre of Captain James Cook with part of his crew on the shore...
The French officer Louis Isidor Duperrey (with Jules Dumont d'Urville as second) landed in Tahiti in May 1823. In a letter dated 15, he reported : “The missionaries of the Missionary Society of London have totally changed customs and practices. customs of these inhabitants. Idolatry no longer exists among them and they generally profess the Christian religion... The bloody wars that these peoples waged and human sacrifices no longer take place."
In 1850, British castaways testify to the good reception of the Tahitians. In the evening, they heard songs and Bible readings in the huts. What change ! God makes the ignorant wise (Psalm 19.8)...
In Europe, Christianity enlightened great civilizations and influenced their laws. But today, without the Word of God read with simplicity and received with faith, the heart of man hardens, victim of his ignorance... The remedy remains the same : read the Bible to know Christ inside.
