Why was I born ?

Luke 5:10 - Then Jesus said to Simon : “Fear not ; henceforth you will be a fisher of men".

Simon Peter was a fisherman by trade. He had a small business, but the only examples of his professional experience that the Word tells us are failing ! Two nights of fishing without catching anything and a storm in which he believed, with the other disciples, to die. This prompts me to the following reflection.

There is a destiny in every human being that takes shape long before conversion. Consecutive failures do not prove that it is not who we are. In fact, there is in us all the potential to be and do what we were created for, but the devil sabotages everything until one day, this destiny is fully in the hands of God.

Peter had the soul of a sinful sailor and his destiny was to become a sinner of men in the hands of God. It is he whom Jesus had chosen to sin the “fish with the stater” (Matthew 17:27), recognizing his identity. But his gift only became "effective" when he was put at the service of God and of others. He could have said to himself : “With my small fishing business, I will support Jesus' evangelistic campaigns; the first miraculous catch will be an investment fund”. But that wasn't His destiny.

All this beloved to say : the vision that has been burning deep in your heart for a very long time is probably the gift of your destiny. Whatever setbacks you have suffered so far, it doesn't mean anything. Put yourself fully at the service of God and others with what you are and what you know how to do and the time for success will come ! Oh, it might not be spectacular, but you will feel like you are stepping into the why you were born !
