What will be your legacy ?

“He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and he walked entirely in the way of his ancestor David, he did not deviate from it to the right or to the left.” 2 Kings 22. 2

Josiah's grandfather, Manasseh, was a very violent and cruel king who "put his son through the fire, he practiced divination and occultism, and he set up people who could summon spirits and spiritualists. He did more and more what was evil in the eyes of the Lord, thus provoking his wrath” (2 Kings 21:6). His father, King Amon, perished under the blows of his own officers. His epitaph tells us that he "did evil in the sight of the Lord." When he came to the throne of Israel, Josiah was only eight years old, yet he immediately chose to do what was right in the eyes of the Lord and did not stray from that path for the rest of his life (2 Kings 22 2). How important is this detail to us ? We can't choose our parents, but we can choose the role models we will emulate! While Josiah was having the temple in Jerusalem repaired, a manuscript was discovered containing the Law that God had given to Moses. When he began to read it, Josiah could not help but cry when he realized how far the people of Israel had come from God. He then sent a messenger to consult a prophetess to ask what would become of him and the people. She replied to Josiah that since he had repented after reading God's commandments, he and his generation would be spared (2 Chronicles 34:14-27). Imagine an entire generation saved by the integrity of one man ! You too can escape your past and make a difference around you. Your parents passed down their DNA to you, but God can give you a fresh start and a new future. “Be imitators of God, since you are his beloved children” (Ephesians 5:1). Like Josiah, you cannot influence your ancestors' behavior toward God, but you can control your own conduct toward Him. Your past is not a prison : you have a say in your future and your destiny. The path you follow is your choice and your responsibility ! Make the right choice, and one day, years after you are gone, generations will praise the Lord for the legacy you left them !
