"Seeing that she had not gone unnoticed, the woman came trembling and fell at her feet, and declared before all the people why she had touched him and how she had been healed immediately." Luke 8.47
Do you know that feeling of being alone in the middle of a crowd ? Sometimes we need help desperately, but no matter how many people around us, nobody can do anything about it.
"God welcomes without condemnation anyone who comes to him with faith."
That's what happened to this woman who, for twelve years, was suffering from blood loss. At that time, a woman who had blood loss was considered impure and untouchable throughout the period of her losses. She could not come out of her house, and brought in all sorts of specialists who might be able to help her. But since nobody could do anything for her, she decided, after twelve years of unsuccessful attempts, to take the risk of leaving home. Maybe she hid her face and lowered her eyes to avoid being seen ? She was untouchable but she knew that just touching Jesus' clothes could heal her !
This woman surely had not planned to draw attention to her ! The act she had just done - to touch a person with blood loss - was condemned by law. She is discovered by Jesus in full blame, and it is all trembling that she approaches him. But he, full of compassion, speaks to her with love and heals her.
God welcomes without condemnation anyone who approaches him with faith. You will never go unnoticed with him, even when the rest of the world does not see you or act as if you do not exist !
A prayer for today
My God, I'm coming to you with all my limits, my failings and my imperfections. I want to touch the edge of your garment, believing that your love is enough to fill all that I am. Thank you for being this friend who welcomes me and surrounds me without any condemnation. I have everything fully in you. Amen.
