The commitment !

Proverbs 20:25 - It is a trap for a man to take a sacred covenant lightly, and to only think about it after making a vow.

Our verse of the day of course refers to a practice of the Old Covenant. Ecclesiastes adds : "It is better for you not to make a vow, than to make one and not fulfill it" (Ecclesiastes 5: 5). However, my point is in this direction, because if this Word concerns the Old Covenant, it remains the Word of God and should find an application in our life.

If you interview many of God's servants, they will tell you that it is becoming more and more difficult to find people who are faithful to their commitments. Our time is already proving that the word given no longer has much value. To use a little "chastened" language, we could say : "No one cares and says anything !". So obviously the consequences are less dramatic than under the Old Alliance, but this kind of behavior is not without consequences.

Paul, in his prophetic end-time vision, already proclaims that people will be disloyal (2 Timothy 3: 3). Jesus gave importance to the word given by saying : "Let your yes be yes !” (Matthew 5.37). We need to let ourselves be challenged by this fact : "When I contract a commitment with my lips, I create a debt". This debt will not be covered until I have fulfilled the words of my commitment.

So, of course, you have to think twice before making a commitment, but you should also know that the Master's reward will go to those who have been faithful in little (Matthew 25:21). Also consider that any vain word, that is to say without foundation, thoughtless, could be a source of condemnation (Matthew 12.36 and 37).

Beloved, the Kingdom does not need talkers, fine talkers, big empty statements; it needs mature men and women who honor their commitments, reliable people who can be trusted and who will do their yes, no matter what !

Your life is hidden !

Psalms 1:3 - He is like a tree planted by a stream of water, which bears fruit in its season, and whose leaves do not wither : All that he does succeeds him.

We all know that the tree we see draws its life from the roots, much deeper than this one, and which they are hidden ! A tree that did not have this "secret life" could not survive. The fruit that is seen in its season is only the result of this "interior life". Paul tells us in Colossians 3: 3 : “Your life is hidden with Christ in God !".

Unfortunately the spirit of "appearing" which animates the world today has largely contaminated the Church. The “hidden life” with Christ has become a scarce commodity. I do not throw stones at anyone, the current ministries are so solicited that it becomes almost impossible for them to spend this time with God out of sight and the spotlight ! Yet it is clear that our perfect model, the Lord Jesus, had this intimate and hidden communion with his Father.

During my Bible training, I met a pastor from a church in Lisbon, Portugal. This church had twelve full-time ministries. They all had the morning of each day to maintain this hidden life, and at noon they gathered together to pray. Finally, church activities did not begin until the afternoon. No wonder this community has quadrupled in just a few years.

Beloved Ones, if we want our “leaders” to bear fruit in their season, let us give them the opportunity to develop this hidden life with their Lord.

And you, my friend, who is preparing you for "ministry", seek this excellence. Take the example of John the Baptist who, before appearing in public, spent many years alone with God in the desert.

Votre vie est cachée !

Psaumes 1.3 - Il est comme un arbre planté près d’un courant d’eau, qui donne son fruit en sa saison, et dont le feuillage ne se flétrit point : Tout ce qu’il fait lui réussit.

Nous savons tous que l'arbre que nous voyons tire sa vie des racines, beaucoup plus profondes que celui-ci, et qui elles sont cachées ! Un arbre qui n'aurait pas cette « vie secrète » ne pourrait pas subsister. Le fruit qui se voit en sa saison n'est le résultat que de cette « vie intérieure ». Paul nous dit dans Colossiens 3.3 : « Votre vie est cachée avec Christ en Dieu ! ».

Malheureusement l'esprit du « paraître » qui anime le monde d'aujourd'hui a largement contaminé l'Église. La « vie cachée » avec Christ est devenue une denrée rare. Je ne jette la pierre à personne, les ministères actuels sont tellement sollicités qu'il leur devient presque impossible de passer ce temps avec Dieu loin des regards et des projecteurs ! Pourtant force est de constater que notre modèle parfait, le Seigneur Jésus, avait cette communion intime et cachée avec son Père.

Lors de ma formation biblique, j'ai rencontré un pasteur d'une église de Lisbonne au Portugal. Cette église avait douze ministères à plein temps. Tous avaient la matinée de chaque jour pour entretenir cette vie cachée et, à l'heure du midi, ils se retrouvaient ensemble pour prier. Enfin les activités de l'église ne commençaient que l'après-midi. Pas étonnant que cette communauté ait quadruplé en quelques années.

Mes bien-aimés, si nous voulons que nos « leaders » portent du fruit en leur saison, donnons-leur l'opportunité de développer cette vie cachée avec leur Seigneur.

Et toi mon ami qui te prépare au « ministère », cherche cette excellence. Prends exemple sur Jean-Baptiste qui, avant de paraître en public, passa de nombreuses années seul à seul avec Dieu dans le désert.

I do not know !

1 Corinthians 13:12 - today I partly know...

I don't know why, but often we find it difficult to accept that we are not endowed with limitless knowledge. I have noticed that very often, we Christians, we have a problem : when a person asks us a question, it seems impossible to us not to answer it, even if we answer “beside”.

However, is it so necessary to have to answer absolutely and more: immediately ?

We are only human beings, endowed with more or less knowledge. There is nothing stupid about simply saying : “I don't know. I can't answer you now because I don't know everything. I'll find out and keep you posted”.

It is true that God can give us repartee at the right time, but let us nevertheless accept to be only men and women ! Certainly in God, but who still have things to learn every day : to learn from God, especially through his Word, but also through others.

Je sais pas moi !

1 Corinthiens 13.12 - aujourd'hui je connais en partie...

Je ne sais pas pourquoi mais souvent nous avons du mal à accepter que nous ne sommes pas dotés d'un savoir sans limite. J'ai remarqué que très souvent, nous chrétiens, nous avons un souci : quand une personne nous pose une question, il nous semble pas possible de ne pas y répondre, même si nous répondons « à côté ».

Pourtant, est-il si nécessaire de devoir répondre absolument et de plus : tout de suite ?

Nous ne sommes que des êtres humains, dotés de connaissances plus ou moins grandes. Il n'y a rien de stupide à dire tout simplement : « Je ne sais pas. Je ne peux te répondre maintenant car je ne sais pas tout. Je vais me renseigner et je te tiens au courant ».

Il est vrai que Dieu peut nous donner de la répartie au bon moment, mais acceptons néanmoins de n'être que des hommes et des femmes ! Certes en Dieu mais qui avons encore et chaque jour des choses à apprendre : apprendre de Dieu, notamment au travers de sa Parole, mais aussi au travers des autres.

Knowledge makes you proud !

1 Corinthians 8:1 - Knowledge makes you proud, but love edifies.

I really enjoy listening to messages coming from a doctor's ministry. It is very invigorating and the doctors know how to expose all the depth of the Word of God, giving to the smallest word, to the smallest detail, an unsuspected magnitude.

However, I must be careful and reflect on this question: is it my intellect that is fed or my mind ? We do not come back to the fact that unfortunately the people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4.6) and that they need to be educated spiritually, nor on the fact that the Christian must use his renewed intelligence to have a minimum of common sense, but we want to talk about the danger of bringing everything down to reason alone.

When I ask myself the question : "Is my mind nourished ?" I mean : "Am I getting spiritual revelation from these teachings ?" Does the knowledge communicated to me find a practical application in my daily life ? Am I moving forward in my knowledge of God and His plans for MY life ?".

To take an example : I can know everything about an automobile, how a four-stroke engine works, the role of the gearbox, what is an ABS, an airbag, a traction or a propulsion, a 4x4, a sedan , a coupe or a pick up ! As long as I haven't turned the ignition key, engaged the gear, sloppy and accelerated (unless it's an automatic gearbox), I won't have advanced an inch !

My beloved, the Word of God is extremely intelligent. Meditating on it through study is an extraordinary richness if... it finds a practical application in my life and if my “spiritual man” receives substantial nourishment from it. I'm just asking you to remember the last deep sermon you heard : What are the fruits so far ? The doctor probably did his job, and you ?

La connaissance rend orgueilleux !

1 Corinthiens 8.1 - La connaissance rend orgueilleux, mais l'amour édifie.

J'aime beaucoup écouter les messages venant d'un ministère de docteur. C'est très vivifiant et les docteurs savent exposer toute la profondeur de la Parole de Dieu, donnant au moindre mot, au moindre détail, une ampleur insoupçonnée.

Cependant je dois être prudent et réfléchir sur cette question : est-ce mon intellect qui est nourri ou mon esprit ? Nous ne revenons pas sur le fait que malheureusement le peuple périt faute de connaissance (Osée 4.6) et qu'il a besoin de s'instruire spirituellement, ni sur le fait que le chrétien doit utiliser son intelligence renouvelée pour avoir un minimum de bon sens, mais nous voulons parler du danger de tout ramener à la seule raison.

Quand je me pose la question : « Mon esprit est-il nourri ? » je veux dire : « Est-ce que je tire une révélation spirituelle de ces enseignements ? Le savoir qui m'est communiqué trouve-t-il une application pratique dans mon quotidien ? Est-ce que j'avance dans ma connaissance de Dieu et de ses plans pour MA vie ? ».

Pour prendre un exemple : je peux tout savoir sur une automobile, comment fonctionne un moteur à quatre temps, le rôle de la boîte de vitesse, ce qu'est un ABS, un airbag, une traction ou une propulsion, un 4x4, une berline, un coupé ou un pick up ! Tant que je n'aurai pas tourné la clé de contact, enclenché la vitesse, débraillé et accéléré (sauf si c'est une boîte automatique), je n'aurai pas avancé d'un pouce !

Mes bien-aimés, la Parole de Dieu est d'une intelligence extrême. La méditer par l'étude est une richesse extraordinaire si... elle trouve une application pratique dans ma vie et si mon « homme spirituel » en reçoit une nourriture conséquente. Je vous demande simplement de vous souvenir de la dernière prédication profonde que vous avez entendue : quels sont les fruits à ce jour ? Le docteur a probablement fait son job, et vous ?

Don't irritate your children !

Colossians 3:21 - Fathers, do not anger your children, lest they be discouraged.

Educating children is far from easy ! If “fathers” have a right to expect submission from their children (Colossians 3:20), our verse shows that they also have a duty to them.

How can we irritate our children ? The greatest irritation is probably going to come from a feeling of injustice. When a child is preferred over others, or conversely when a child is looked down upon in relation to others. When the eldest child is too quickly made responsible, when the time for recklessness is stolen from him. Conversely, when the child is too cocooned and cannot take off. When the child is unjustly punished or when the punishment is not proportionate. When the child is neglected because of the service of God. When he is frustrated with the affection he has a right to expect. When his efforts to do well are neither recognized nor rewarded. When... the list can be long !

Parents, I invite you to probe yourselves. The bad relationship that has developed between you and your child is not always your responsibility, but you may realize that you have irritated him. Don't get stuck behind the fact that he has to be submissive. If the Holy Spirit calls you, take the step of repentance towards your child even if it is young. You will be able by your gesture to stop the process of destruction of filial love.

Our God is the perfect example and He took the first step of reconciliation with the rebel by giving his Son on the cross.

N'irritez pas vos enfants !

Colossiens 3.21 - Pères, n’irritez pas vos enfants, de peur qu’ils ne se découragent.

L'éducation des enfants est loin d'être une chose facile ! Si les « pères » sont en droit d'attendre de la soumission de la part de leurs enfants (Colossiens 3.20), notre verset montre bien qu'ils ont aussi un devoir envers eux.

Comment pouvons-nous irriter nos enfants ? La plus grande irritation va probablement venir d'un sentiment d'injustice. Quand un enfant est préféré aux autres, ou à l'inverse quand un enfant est méprisé par rapport aux autres. Quand l'aîné des enfants est trop vite responsabilisé, quand le temps de l'insouciance lui est volé. A contrario, quand l'enfant est trop coconné et ne peut pas prendre son envol. Quand l'enfant est puni injustement ou quand la punition n'est pas proportionnée. Quand l'enfant est délaissé à cause du service de Dieu. Quand il est frustré de l'affection qu'il est en droit d'attendre. Quand ses efforts pour bien faire ne sont pas reconnus, ni récompensés. Quand... la liste peut être longue !

Parents, je vous invite à vous sonder. La mauvaise relation qui s'est établie entre vous et votre enfant n'est pas toujours de votre responsabilité mais peut-être que vous vous rendez compte que vous l'avez irrité. Ne restez pas camper derrière le fait qu'il doit être soumis. Si le Saint-Esprit vous interpelle, ayez la démarche de la repentance envers votre enfant même s'il est en bas âge. Vous pourrez par votre geste enrailler le processus de destruction de l'amour filial.

Notre Dieu est l'exemple parfait et Il a eu la première démarche de réconciliation avec le rebelle en donnant son Fils sur la croix.

Silence the bad tongues !

Psalm 107.42 - May the upright be glad to see all this, and all evil tongues be silenced ! (BFC).

Psalm 107 describes several situations of human distress. Some were lost in a dreadful desert and lost all courage, others were locked in a dark dungeon, still others were in terrible anguish and already had one foot in the grave, others finally found themselves in a terrible storm and despite their know-how they were "lost".

All of these people suffered the consequences of their disobedience. But when they turned to the Lord to cry out to Him, they were all delivered. Some were watered and fed and they found shelter, others, the Lord took them from their dark dungeon by smashing the iron doors and bronze bolts, others again, He healed them and snatched them from death, the others finally, He calmed the storm and brought them to port.

My reflection, in relation to our verse, is this : we must know how to be silent about the situations that others live because God is able to silence bad tongues ! How do I react when God steps in to save someone who is in turmoil because of their disobedience ? Am I able to rejoice ? Or does it create frustration in me ?

I would also like you to be encouraged, you who are going through the difficulties described in this Psalm. There is only one solution : to cry out to God to intervene in your situation, and He will do it even if you have done it yourself. And as this Psalm also says, may we all praise God for who He is !
