• Dare to believe

"Elisha said to him : At that time, next year, you will kiss a son. She then said : No ! My Lord, man of God, do not disappoint your servant !" 2 Kings 4.16

A well-off woman, living in the village of Sunem, had taken it with her husband to receive Elisha at their table. Then, this couple specially arranged a room for the prophet. Elisha, touched by this generosity, wished to bless them in return. When he learned that his guests were not able to have children, he made a promise to them, saying, "At that time, next year, you will kiss a son." When the woman heard this, rather than rejoice, she exclaimed : "No, my Lord, man of God, do not disappoint your servant !"

The promises of God are yes and amen.

Certainly she wanted to believe it when she dared not hope. Are you like her ? Do you sometimes want to believe, without daring ... ? You want to believe that Jesus is able to heal you, to deliver you, to bring the conversion of a parent, to provide for your needs, to respond to a secret prayer. Yes, you would like to believe in it but at the same time, you do not dare any more for fear of being disappointed. You would like to believe in all that the Bible teaches about miracles, healings, prodigies but you do not dare anymore. Worse, you do not want us to pray for you for fear of being still disillusioned or that it does not work. As the woman of this story you say : "Do not disappoint your servant."

You believe in healing, forgiveness, deliverance, etc. But for others, not for you. Today, you are annoyed, the wear and tear of time has left marks. You always have faith in God and at the same time you have lost all hope.

The promises of God are yes and amen. The Lord is not a liar. What he says he accomplishes. Despite her fear of being disappointed, she had a son. Do not be afraid, dare to believe ...

    A prayer for today

Lord, I dared not believe it, I was so disappointed. I expect you, quite simply, amen.
