Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord ! It is like a tree planted near water... its foliage remains green. Jeremiah 17. 7, 8

    Like a tree

During the scorching episodes of summer 2019, we observed several trees that could not stand the excessive heat. According to the National Forestry Office (ONF), an adult oak tree needs around 200 liters of water per day to maintain its 150,000 green leaves. Every day this tree drinks as many as 130 people ! We understand that it is vital for him to have deep roots and plenty of water.

The believer who puts his trust in God is compared to a tree that plants its roots in a place where water will never be lacking. So even if difficulties arise in his life, he who relies on the Almighty will not be crushed by them. Instead of souring, it will continue to provide good around it, like the shade of a tree that is appreciated in the heat.

In the trunk of a tree there is a flow of water and minerals which starts from the roots and nourishes the leaves. But there is also, thanks to photosynthesis, energy that goes from the leaves to everything that grows : roots, fruits and seeds.

The believer is like a tree planted near water, he bears fruit (he does what pleases God). He resembles more and more in his attitudes and his way of living the Lord Jesus, and he is useful to his Master.

"It extends its roots towards the stream ; it does not notice the arrival of heat and its foliage remains green. In a year of drought, it does not fear anything and it does not stop wearing fruit" (Jeremiah 17.8).
