Need advice ?

A child is born to us, a son is given to us, and sovereignty will rest on his shoulder: he will be called wonderful counselor... Isaiah 9.5

Who hasn't needed advice ? Even an adult, with a lot of experience, how often do we find ourselves in situations where we realize this need ! The Bible enlightens us : Your word is a lamp at my feet, and a light on my path (Psalm 119.105). That is to say, there is advice. That God counsels means that he does not forsake us, despite the rift that sin has created between him and us. He has a sincere and powerful desire to come to our aid, not to leave us in the doldrums.

The greatest proof of his willingness to cross this divide of separation is the sending of Jesus Christ. This little child has for name (among others) : counselor. Another prophetic writing says of him: The Spirit of the Lord will rest upon him [...] the Spirit of counsel and of power... (Isaiah 11.2).

In Jesus Christ, taking his place in our humanity, God does not only give us advice : Jesus himself will live a human existence led by the advice of his Father. Showing by example, he applies to himself what he wants us to experience. And this existence led by the counsel of God has shocked all of humanity.

To be counseled by God is a great grace. To receive Jesus as Savior is to welcome his advice. Accept this outstretched hand, these counsels for a renewed life leading to eternal life.
