• Not even a little root of bitterness

"Make sure that no one deprives himself of the grace of God, that no root of bitterness, producing shoots, causes trouble and that many are infected." Hebrews 12:15

The observation of nature teaches us much about ourselves.

Day after day, let's clean our secret garden ...

Those who do a little gardening know very well that it is not enough to cut a weed to get rid of it : it is also necessary to tear off the root, sometimes very deep ! Otherwise it reappears, just as vigorous the following days and will continue to stifle the flowers, fruits and vegetables that are grown.

It is the same in our lives. The disappointments, the misunderstandings, the conflicts, the wounds, the trials we are going through, are as much an occasion to sow bitterness in the depths of our soul.

If we do not watch, our heart quickly becomes a field of brambles that stifles the good grain that God sows in us. And this also affects our surroundings. Discouragement and rancor are very contagious !

We do not control the events that are reaching us. However, we have power over our reactions and thoughts. We can refuse to cultivate sadness, bitterness, spite.

Therefore, day by day, let us cleanse our secret garden, so as not to leave the time for brambles to grow, to fortify and eventually destroy the good things God offers us.

Do you have a quarrel ? Make every effort to restore peace. Have you been offended ? Forgive and let divine justice work. Are you tired and overwhelmed ? Put your burden at the foot of the cross.

    A prayer for today

In your grace, O Lord, come to my aid to heal my wounds and free me from these bitter ties. Like the psalmist, I invite you to weed my heart. "Probe me, O God, and know my heart, try me, and know my thoughts, see if I am on the wrong path, and lead me on the way of eternity !" (Psalms 139: 23-24).
