Priority to the Eternal God

“I anticipate the dawn to implore Your help, I hope in Your promises. Before the night is over, I open my eyes to meditate on Your Word.” Psalm 119. 147-148

One of the most difficult disciplines to establish and maintain, for even the most disposed Christian, is to consider face-to-face prayer with God as a priority and necessary every day, even several times a day. Our world is always written in time to win, to fill, to find, to fill, and finally, we all run after time, exhausted from not finding it. There are always things that seem more urgent, more important, more essential to us than the moment of prayer, meditation and calm for our divine master. But our excuses don't always hold water ! The story of Count Von Pfeil, minister of Frederick II King of Prussia, is told. He made it a priority to spend an hour each morning in communion with God and in reading the Bible. His secretary had orders never to disturb him during that hour. One day, the king in person wanted to enter the office of his minister. The secretary did not know whether to block the king's way or disobey his master. Finally, he explained to Frederick II what Von Pfeil was doing, and the king replied : “Very well ! I'll wait !" So therefore, even the king understood where the priority was, any monarch that he was and any respect that was due to him, he had to wait his turn, after God. In fact, can the king of kings go after anyone and anything ? It is perhaps by becoming aware of what we have received from Him (coming out of death to seize eternal life) that we will better measure that He really deserves the priority of priorities. And it is undoubtedly a matter of prayer to ask Him to have this acute sense of priority, and therefore of the primacy of the Lord of lords.
