I see everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Jesus Christ my Lord. Because of him I let myself be stripped of everything and I consider it all garbage in order to gain Christ. (Philippians 3. 8)

Really excellent

Hailing from a famous city, Saul comes from a wealthy family and has a very good education. He is more zealous than anyone for Judaism, the religion of his ancestors. His fate is truly enviable.

But the life of Saul, who would become the apostle Paul, was marked by a radical turning point. While traveling to Damascus to persecute Christians, he meets Jesus. This extraordinary meeting transforms him, and his scale of values ​​is turned upside down. He now knows Jesus Christ as his Lord and, in comparison, the rest lose all attraction for him. What concerns Jesus henceforth becomes “excellent things”. So he prays that Christians will see its immense value, like him. On the other hand, all his previous privileges, everything that once seemed desirable to him, he now considers "like garbage". What change !

Like Paul, the Christian has a wonderful friend who overshadows everything that men attach importance to : culture, education, wealth, religious zeal, etc. He knows Jesus Christ. His real reason for living is to progress in the knowledge of his Lord, and to discern ever better the “excellent things”, those which concern the person of Jesus, his work, his resurrection and his glory.

Center bursting with infinite light,

Divine sun whose face shines,

Under your light we are born to life

And from our hearts darkness escapes.
