The blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, continually cleanses me from all sin.

On the basis of the proclamation above, my personal testimony would be, "If I walk in the light, the blood of Jesus cleanses me now and continually from all sin". I say that he is "cleansing me now" because it makes this proclamation a "sitting-down" and not imprecise and global. This is for me here and now, but also continuously, infinitely in the future.

In East Africa, the Swahili language has a specific time describing things that are complete and permanent. For the well-known song : "The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin," they sing : "the blood of Jesus purifies us completely and absolutely. These words have remained to me because they express things so perfectly. Now, reconsider this confession under the light of continuity and the absolute.

This principle is beautifully commented in Psalm 51, which is the great psalm of penance that David wrote after being convinced of his sins of adultery and murder. It is one of the most beautiful psalms, one that everyone would do well to read from time to time to make his own prayer. I believe in making psalms his own prayer. For my part, I do not approach them as a mere reading but as a personal prayer.

"Purify me from sin with a branch of hyssop, and I will be pure ! Wash me and I will be even whiter than snow. (Psalm 51: 9) You will notice that David introduces hyssop. This implies that, substantially, it is the hyssop that brings the blood to where I am. It is a magnificent prophetic vision of the purification by the blood of Jesus.

Prayer of the day :

Thank you Lord for the blood of Jesus. I proclaim that his blood cleanses me, now and forever, from all sin. The blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, continually cleanses me from all sin. Amen.
