• The two directions of forgiveness

By the blood of Jesus, all my sins are forgiven.

The word forgiveness is one of the most beautiful that exists, in all languages. Why is it so beautiful ? Consider some of the results that come with it : reconciliation, peace, harmony, understanding, fraternity. Our world is so badly needed today !

In contrast, consider some of the consequences of our refusal to forgive or receive forgiveness : bitterness, conflict, disharmony, hate and war. Sometimes it seems that the entire human race is in danger of being overwhelmed by these bad and negative forces. If we want to be able to rise above this condition, it will only be by learning and applying the principles of forgiveness.

Here are the two directions of forgiveness presented in the Bible. These two directions are represented by this great symbol of the Christian faith that is the cross. This cross is made of two beams, one vertical and the other horizontal, which represent the two directions of forgiveness. The vertical beam represents the forgiveness we need from God and can only be received by our identification with the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The horizontal beam represents our relationship with our fellow humans and it represents forgiveness, which in this case also indicates two directions : the forgiveness that we need to receive from others and the one we must give them. Once again, the only place where we can receive this kind of forgiveness is the cross.

    Prayer of the day :

Thank you Lord for the blood of Jesus. I proclaim that not only do I receive forgiveness from God but that I open myself to receive the forgiveness of others and offer them mine as well. By the blood of Jesus, all my sins are forgiven. Amen.
