"After God, who at many times and in many ways spoke to the fathers by the prophets, at the end of those days, God spoke to us in the Son." Hebrews 1 1 2


It is impossible for very limited human beings to know God by themselves. It is necessary that God reveals to them. That's what he did.
God revealed Himself by speaking through the prophets at many "times" and many "ways". The first of these terms indicates that the revelation made in A.T. occurred on numerous occasions, for centuries; the second, that it presented a variety or in the modes of communication (stories, visions, symbols, parables, in the form of poems or prose), either in its content (Act prophecies, promises, warnings) .
God revealed to men in a progressive manner. Does this mean that the first revelations were imperfect, or that they must be adapted or adjusted to the circumstances of the will? Certainly not, because what God says, he does. Abraham was "fully convinced that what God has promised he is able also to perform" (Rom. 4. 21). Even the seer Balaam recognized that God's actions are always consistent with his words (see name. 23. 19)
But the revelation was incomplete, and that Abraham was approached. His nomadic life and abroad Canaan shows that, for him, everything was not just to terrestrial life. He expected "the city which has foundations, of which God is the architect and builder." He was looking for a better land Canaan where it is really home. In fact, he wanted the heavenly homeland, but he has seen from afar (Heb. 11. 8-16).
The prophets of the A.T. were the spokesmen of God, but none of them has received the complete revelation. They could not understand, as Christians, all qu'impliqueraient life and death of Jesus Christ (1 Pet. 1: 10-12). "[But] at the end of those days, [God] has spoken to us in the Son", directly, fully. great privilege!
Christ is the full revelation of God. It is the fulfillment of all that was only in pictures or shadows before his coming. It is central to the Christian faith ... and will be for eternity.
