S.O.S is the international Morse code group that serves as a distress signal and asks for immediate assistance. It consists of three points, three lines and three points. Today, despite the almost universal use of the mobile phone, it is still recommended to use it for people in distress (wounded, shipwrecked ...) and it is forbidden if the situation does not require it. Contrary to popular belief, this signal does not mean anything specific. It was chosen for its sonic clarity (· · · - - - · · ·). It was only afterwards that the meaning was attributed to him: "Save Our Souls". When everything seems lost, S.O.S expresses well the distress of those who are going to die.
The psalmist who wrote the verse of the day experienced great dismay : "The chains of death had surrounded me, and the distresses of Sheol had touched me ; I had found distress and sorrow "(v.3). He launched a true S.O.S to God : "Deliver my soul," in other words, "Save me life" (Bible in French current). In his case, the answer was not long : "You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes with tears, my feet from falls" (v.8).
The author of Psalm 130 went through great distress because of a sin he committed. Repentant, he turned to God : "I have called you from deep places, Ô Lord" (v. 1). He waited, waited ... (5: 6). This waiting time was salutary : the Lord replied by granting his forgiveness. He testifies : "There is forgiveness with you that you may be feared" (v. 4). The psalmist can then exhort his own people to expect the Lord : "Israel, wait for the Lord ; For with the Lord is goodness, and there is redemption in abundance near him "(v.7).
The believer knows that his salvation is definitely acquired and that his soul is saved. If he happens to pass through intense sentences or leave the traced path, he can always address a S.O.S. to God. God will answer. He is always listening !
