"Do I take pleasure in the death of the wicked ? Says the Lord Jehovah; Is it not rather that he turn away from his ways, and live ? For I do not take pleasure in the death of him that dies, saith the Lord God. Come back then, and live. "Ezekiel 18:23, 32

 
How could God rejoice in the death of a man, however wicked he is, who is love, who loves his creature and who wants all men to be saved ?
He is sad when he sees a man entering eternity without having answered the call to repent ; This is what the verse of the day tells us. It is also with reluctance that he brings the consequences of their actions to men on earth, and he does so very often with great mercy and compassion. In his goodness, God also takes care to always warn a culprit before exercising his judgment, as many examples in the Bible show.
This is the case, for example, with Nebuchadnezzar, the idolatrous Assyrian king known for his pitiless cruelty, the destroyer of Jerusalem and his temple, the oppressor of all the peoples he had subdued. God takes care of him, speaks to him in dreams and sends Daniel to interpret them, shows him his power by the deliverance of the three companions of Daniel, urges him to repent before losing his reason, all this until He acknowledges the sovereignty of God (Daniel 1-4).
The Lord Jesus knew that Judas would deliver him ; He even called it "the son of perdition" (John 17:12). But on several occasions he warns him and offers him the opportunity to repent at the last meal he takes with his disciples. What sadness in the words of Jesus when he thinks of the eternal fate of Judas : "It would have been good for this man that he was not born" (Matthew 26:24) !
Does it not happen to us that some one of our acquaintance is too bad to convert, or too haughty or too imbued with his knowledge ? God does not exclude anyone from the salvation he offers to him who believes ; The greatest of criminals can come to Jesus with the certainty of being accepted.
Let us share the love of God who wants "all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim.2: 4).
