What thought of Christ

"Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever ; It is a scepter of righteousness that the scepter of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness ; Therefore God your God has anointed you with an oil of joy above your companions." Psalm 45: 6, 7

Jesus "closed his mouth to the Sadducees" who wanted to embarrass him and responded to the satisfaction of the scribes who honor him with a "Master, you have said well" (Matt 22:34; 40). In his turn he asks them : "What do you think of Christ ? Whose son is he ? "His double question inevitably led them to recognize that Christ was both the son of David (Psalm 89: 3-5, 26-29) and the Son of God. However, his interlocutors refused to recognize the double filiation of the Lord : "no one could answer him a word ... no one dared ask him anymore" (Matt.22: 46).

The opposition and contempt of the Pharisees toward the Lord proves that they were "in error" and did not "know the Scriptures" (Mark 12:24). Indeed, the double ancestry of the Lord is not only revealed in the text reported by Jesus in his dialogue with the Pharisees.

This essential truth of Christianity already appears clearly in the Psalm 45 of the sons of Korah, entitled A Canticle of the Beloved. This praise does not refer to any particular event in the history of the people or of an individual; It does not address any request to the Lord. It celebrates a person, his titles, his glories and his future "for ever and ever".

"By the Spirit," the sons of Korah discern as David, that the beloved, the king announcing the Messiah, and the valiant man, described in the first verses of Psalm 45, are one and the same person : God Itself. His scepter, emblem of royalty, symbolizes the justice he exercises during his reign. He hates wickedness, he loves righteousness ; It earned him the anointing of ... God. Should we understand that God is self-identifying ? This sentence is intelligible only if we understand that the one who is anointed is a man and that this man is the Messiah. Our mouths open to exalt the beloved Son of God, already seated at the right hand of God, waiting for his reign of glory.
