• The power of words

Similarly, language is a small member and can boast of great things. See how a small fire can ignite a big forest ! James 3: 5

Here is the story of a woman in England who came to see her vicar with a troubled conscience. The vicar knew her as a regular gossip - she had decried almost everyone in the village. "How can I be forgiven ?" She pleaded. The curate said : "If you want to be reconciled to your conscience, take a bag of goose feathers and drop one on the porch of everyone you have slandered." When she had done that, she came back to the priest and said : "That's all ?" "No, said the wise old minister, you must leave now and pick up all the feathers and bring them all back to me." After a long moment, the woman returned without a single pen. "The wind took them all away," she said. "My good wife, said the cure, it is with gossip. Deceitful words are easily removed, but we can never get them back."

    Prayer for the day

Should my words on someone else be spoken in the spirit of your kindness, Father ?
